Shelia Croome shares this news crew from CJOH, broadcasting from the Ottawa Ex.
Writes Sheila:Miss the Ottawa “Ex” this time of year. I was lucky to get this signed photo of the News team at CJOH when they broadcasted live. This was back in 1990. ... See MoreSee Less
My mother knew this team well, as her shop was the supplier of those flowers that they wore for every broadcast (Personal Petals, another part of Lost Ottawa). I last saw Max a couple of months before he died. Bought him a drink at Mill Street and thanked him for all he's done for our city.
I worked upstairs from them at OH for several years. Great team. Very professional. And Brian's murder...well, what is there to say? A terrible tragedy.
Great picture. Great to see everyone. Miss watching CJOH. I miss Brian Smith and his senseless passing. So sad 😢
I miss the ex at this time of the year most...my husband worked the switchboard for them for over 25 years and my kids were there almost everyday for many many years. We met alot of wonderful people and I think I miss them all the most 💕
Oh my gosh, Smitty & Max. What memories. JJ and Carol Ann were kids!
RIP Max and Brian!
I loved CJOH (I had a crush on Brian Smith ... had a drink with him on the market one evening ...) and the Ottawa Ex. ... earlier than this though ... back when it was truly an agricultural fair, and the horse show (I lived in the barns during these years) was a big deal. I came of age (everyone has a summer that defined their teen years), mine was the summer of 1969 (I think) at the Where It’s At pavilion, at the Ottawa Ex ... only for teens. My sister and I bonded over those two weeks (we didn’t miss a night) ... we are still best friends ...
very nice lots of memories watching them
Miss this crew! They were the best!
This is amazing! Brings back really great memories of my childhood in the late 80’s.
Memories of days gone by.
CBC local news used to be bad with Sue Lumsden and others, but I've preferred it to CTV for a long time...
Back when the news was reported properly. Always enjoyed watching this team.
awesome! thank you for sharing 😊
Oh gosh! I forgot about that line up
I used to work a Biggs Deli across the street in the mid 90s.. All 4 of them were regulars. Also Wicked Wendy Daniels from The Bear. I was working the day Brian Smith was murdered and got off work about 20 mins after it happened. I remember the scene like it was yesterday.
I miss them all😥
Miss Max and Brian !!! We were just talking about Mr. Keeping today, wish there were a whole lot more like him!
A fantastic team
I liked Bill Patterson sports, who also passed at too young an age, and Brooke McNabb weather, who is also in law. JJ was at CKOY initially. Leigh Chapple I liked, and preferred the 11 pm newscast. All gone too young, mainly in their 50s. Seems as though CBC was kind of a backwater, wasn’t watched much.
I watched Smitty do his final 5 minute commentary, jumped in the car at my parents place in Orleans and by the time I reached my apartment at Prince of Wales and Hogs Back I seen the police and paramedics rushing towards Merivale. I will always remember that.
I still remember when Carolanne Meehan's son went missing.
Great news team.
When CJOH dumped Carol Ann I stopped watching the channel. Rotten way to treat someone. So soon after Max passed too. I watched since the 60s as a kids growing up in Ottawa.
